Formerly known as the Association of accountants of Nigeria, the institute of chartered accountants of Nigeria, ICAN, is now known as the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria. From 1960 until 1965, the organization was known as the Association of Accountants of Nigeria.
Later in 1965, under the direction of Frank Cuthbert Oladipo COKER, CFR, B.Com, FCA, the name was changed to Institute of chartered accountants of Nigeria, ICAN.
Mallam Tijjani Musa Isa BSc, MIoD, FCA attended Zaria’s renowned Barewa College. In 1978, at the age of 22, he obtained a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Accounting from the prestigious Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria.
In 1979, he left immediately for the United Kingdom (UK) to pursue his professional accountancy certification. In order to prepare for the Association of Certified Chartered Accountants (ACCA) examinations, he attended accountancy lectures at Slough College of Higher Education, Wellington Street, Slough, Berkshire; London School of Accountancy, Longford Street, London; and Emile Woolf College of Accountancy, Holborn, London.
Upon his return to Nigeria, he joined Muhtari Dangana & Co (Chartered Accountants), where he became an ACCA member. Subsequently, he enrolled in the ICAN Special Candidates’ Conversion Course and joined the Institute in 1998. He became an ACCA Fellow in 2003 and an ICAN Fellow in 2008.

The President gained practical accounting experience at various accounting firms, including Obiora Monu & Co, Muhtari Dangana & Co, and Sada, Idris & Co. (Chartered Accountants). In 2002, he founded Tijjani Musa Isa & Co (Chartered Accountants), a medium-sized firm with interests in public and private sector projects, such as those sponsored by the World Bank.
Mallam Tijjani has spent his entire professional career in the private sector.
