In this article, we shall be sharing with you full list of ICAN presidents. 2017 President of ICAN is Deacon Titus Alao Soetan (IPP).
Formerly known as the Association of accountants of Nigeria, the institute of chartered accountants of Nigeria, ICAN, is now known as the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria. From 1960 until 1965, the organization was known as the Association of Accountants of Nigeria.
Later in 1965, under the direction of Frank Cuthbert Oladipo COKER, CFR, B.Com, FCA, the name was changed to Institute of chartered accountants of Nigeria, ICAN.
Mallam Tijjani Musa Isa BSc, MIoD, FCA attended Zaria’s renowned Barewa College. In 1978, at the age of 22, he obtained a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Accounting from the prestigious Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria.
In 1979, he left immediately for the United Kingdom (UK) to pursue his professional accountancy certification. In order to prepare for the Association of Certified Chartered Accountants (ACCA) examinations, he attended accountancy lectures at Slough College of Higher Education, Wellington Street, Slough, Berkshire; London School of Accountancy, Longford Street, London; and Emile Woolf College of Accountancy, Holborn, London.
Upon his return to Nigeria, he joined Muhtari Dangana & Co (Chartered Accountants), where he became an ACCA member. Subsequently, he enrolled in the ICAN Special Candidates’ Conversion Course and joined the Institute in 1998. He became an ACCA Fellow in 2003 and an ICAN Fellow in 2008.

Mallam Tijjani attended the Columbia Business School Executive Education Programme, Columbia University, New York, USA, and the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, USA, to hone his leadership skills.
The President gained practical accounting experience at various accounting firms, including Obiora Monu & Co, Muhtari Dangana & Co, and Sada, Idris & Co. (Chartered Accountants). In 2002, he founded Tijjani Musa Isa & Co (Chartered Accountants), a medium-sized firm with interests in public and private sector projects, such as those sponsored by the World Bank.
Mallam Tijjani has spent his entire professional career in the private sector. He worked for one year at Bank of the North Ltd before traveling to the United Kingdom in 1980 to take his professional exams. On his return, he worked for a variety of companies and positions, including Head of Internal Audit at SCOA Nigeria Plc (Equipment Division), Accountant at Kaduna Furniture and Carpets Company Limited (KFCC), and Assistant General Manager (Finance) at Nigerian Unity Line Plc. From 1998 to 2001, he was also AGM of Internal Audit and then Director of Treasury at Intercellular Nigeria Limited, Marina, Lagos. Intercellular Nigeria Limited was the first Nigerian-owned private telecommunications company.
Mallam Tijjani has been in active professional practice for the past 21 years, handling very diverse and complex audit and non-audit engagements and promoting the values of honesty, precision, accountability, and openness. He is obsessed with providing clients with quality services.

Mallam Tijjani collaborates with numerous small businesses to promote practitioner capacity building. He is also a member of Nigeria’s esteemed Institute of Directors (IoD). The President has extensive professional travel experience. According to him, travel is a component of education because it exposes students to best practices in different jurisdictions. Since his election to ICAN Council in 2009, the President has served the Institute as Chairman, Deputy Chairman, or Member of various Council Committees.
