According to DepEd, the Most Essential Learning Competencies, or MELC, “are defined as what students need, regarded indispensable, in the teaching-learning process to build skills to prepare learners for subsequent grade levels and, ultimately, for lifelong learning.
On the other hand, desirable learning competencies were defined as those that may enhance education but may not be required for the development of fundamental skills.”
According to DepEd Order No. 34, section 2022. The Most Essential Learning Competencies (MELCs) should remain applicable for SY 2022–2023, or the “School Calendar and Activities for School Year 2022–2023.
