WAEC Clerical Office Duties
Objectives
The purpose of the exam is to gauge candidates’ capacity for:
- understand the principles and procedures in performing clerical duties in an office;
- apply the knowledge acquired on the uses of office equipment and materials and perform basic clerical office duties;
- communicate effectively;
- explain basic personal and professional habits and attitudes necessary for the performance of official duties;
The examination is further meant to:
- develop problem-solving skills to deal with clerical and secretarial issues in the office;
- provide the foundation for further courses in business studies.
Scheme of the Examination
Two papers Paper 1 and Paper 2 that together make up the composite paper will be given in a single sitting.
Paper 1 will include fifty mandatory multiple-choice questions that must be answered correctly to receive 30 points and be completed in 50 minutes.
Paper 2 consists of six questions, out of which applicants must select three to respond correctly in order to receive 16 points each. One case study is necessary and carries 22 points.
Candidates will be expected to demonstrate understanding of the topics in the case study, which will be based on scenarios from the workplace.
The paper will be 2 hours and 10 minutes long and worth a total of 70 marks.
