The Senior Secondary School curriculum for Trade Subjects served as the foundation for this exam syllabus.
Its goals include educating applicants about the world of radio, television, and electronics works, enhancing their attitude toward maintaining and repairing such equipment, and enabling them to understand how science and technology are related.
The objective of the syllabus is to test the candidates’ knowledge and understanding of the following:
- Workshop Safety Rules and Regulations;
- Basic Electricity;
- Electronic Tools and Instruments;
- Electronic Devices and Circuits;
- Electronic Communication Systems;
- Workshop Practice and Maintenance;
- Entrepreneurship in Radio, Television and Electronics Works.
Papers 1, 2, and 3 are the three required papers that must all be taken. A composite paper consisting of Papers 1 and 2 must be taken in one session.
The first paper will include forty multiple-choice objective questions that must all be answered in 45 minutes for a total of 40 points.
The second paper will have six concise, well-structured questions. Candidates will have one hour to respond to any four questions for 60 points.
A two-hour practical test will be part of PAPER 3. Three skill-based questions will be included, and applicants must correctly answer two of them to receive 90 points.
Schools must get a list of the test materials at least two weeks prior to the exam date so that they can make the necessary preparations and purchases.
Alternative to Practical Work
Alternatively, the Council may consider assessing candidates’ level of theoretical proficiency with the practical skills outlined in the syllabus in the case that materials for the actual practical test cannot be obtained.
There will be two mandatory questions for this alternate test, which must be completed correctly for 100 points in two hours.
The applicants should do this during the extended break between their SS II and III course. Their subject teachers will oversee and grade it. It will receive 10 points.
